FAQ

-OOC FAQ-

So what’s going on here?
Welcome to Mock Week! A short-term, two-week murdergame in the style of Foolish Mortals or Airlocked, with a team mechanic! Though this is a mock week, we also aim for it to be its own, self-contained game. We will run with up to 20 characters, but as few as 10. Please be warned, the game may touch on themes of dissociation and identity issues, but they shouldn’t feature heavily. Please inform the mods if you have problems with these or any issues requiring warnings or more.

What’s the schedule look like?
We’re going to operate on an IC/OOC 1:1 day ratio, in which one day OOC equals one day IC, with the exception of the investigation and trial. OOCly, the investigation will take place on Friday, and the trial will take place on Saturday - ICly, they will both take place on Friday, with the trial immediately following the investigation.
The full schedule currently looks like this:
-RESERVES will open FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16th at noon EST. They will remain open until the following Friday, November 23rd, or until we hit the character cap.
-An OOC MINGLE will go up SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18th at the earliest.
-The IC INTRO will go up SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 25th. The first week will be a peace week, because we love pain here.
-MONDAY, DECEMBER 3, will have an IC TEAM CHALLENGE. This will, ICly, determine how the motive plays out.
-TUESDAY, DECEMBER 4, will have the motive handed out ICly.
-FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7, and SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8, will be our body discovery, investigation, and trial.
-Endgame shouldn’t go beyond MONDAY, DECEMBER 10, at the latest.

Will there be AC?
No, just an informal check-in after Peace Weekend.

What kind of characters can we app?
Characters should be 15 or older (or equivalent), though we may make exceptions for characters who’ve Seen Some Shit. OCs and customizable/silent protagonists are welcome, fandom OCs and CRAUs are not. We also ask that players refrain from apping real people who have not been heavily fictionalized. If you want to app, say, Clint McElroy, janitor to the Tesseralia Winners, you might be okay. But apping Clint McElroy, radio personality, podcaster, and DnD player isn't going to fly. When in doubt, check with the mods. Finally, all characters should be ALIVE at their chosen canon point. If this means taking them seconds before their sudden but inevitable death, that’s fine.

Do I need a reserve to play?
YES. There will be no apps for this mock week, but a reserve is required.

You mentioned a team mechanic.
ICly, your characters will be split into two teams. While there won’t be a physical separation, the teams will face off in some kind of challenge the second Monday of the game. This will determine how exactly the motive falls out and who it affects.

How’s the murder aspect work?
One week in advance -in this case when the OOC mingle goes up- we will RNG our lovely participants and contact them. Those rolled will have 24 hours to respond, at which point we will put everyone involved into contact and begin working out all the gory details of who’s going to kill who and how. Participants will have until Tuesday the following week, motive day, to hammer out details with the help of the mods.
The second Friday of the game, the body discovery and investigation log will go up, and our players will have to discover clues about the murder and maybe some other things and noodle out whodunnit. At the trial, you will have to compare evidence, propose theories, and figure out who to execute.

Other things?
As we said, this is meant to be a self-contained, if extra short, game. The investigation may include some details about the setting as well as the murder case!

What if I don’t want my character to die, can I opt out of the RNG?
If you don’t want your character to die, you may be looking at the wrong genre of game, sorry. No opt outs.
Is there going to be a golden end?
Spoilers.

You didn’t answer my question.
Ask below or PM the mod account! Or contact [plurk.com profile] Phasma on Plurk. We’ll try to answer your questions and concerns as best as we can.

You keep saying “we,” isn’t there only one mod for this?
It’s our comm, we can use the royal we if we want to.

-IC FAQ-

Where am I? How did I get here?
Salutations! You’re in The Testing Facility, located in scenic [STATIC NOISES]. You’ve been chosen to participate in a very important study about communal bonds and interpersonal competition while under stress.

I didn’t sign up for this.
But you must have! Otherwise you wouldn’t be here, obviously.

Can I leave?
Leaving would invalidate the findings of the study! Of course you’ll be free to go once it’s complete, but that could be a while. It’s probably best if you relax and enjoy your stay! Don’t worry, your well-being will be completely cared for while you’re here.

Where’s all my stuff?
In safekeeping, for the duration of the study. We can’t have too many factors in the study! But after some debate, we have allowed you to keep your original clothes, and one spare set will be kept for you in the closets in your dormitory.
You've also generously been gifted with an electronic ID, which contains profiles on you and your fellow participants, a map of the facility, facility rules, and gives you access to your dormitory. And it can play Snake!

What about my powers?
Unfortunately, powers beyond those of a baseline human are considered too much of an x-factor by the Researcher, and had to be shut down. They’ll be returned to you good as new with your possessions, once the study ends!

Who’s the Researcher and why do they get a capital letter?
They’re the one running the study, of course! The one in charge.

Can I talk to them?
You can try? They like to be hands-off as much as possible. You’ll have to deal with the Assistant.

The Assistant assists?
Yes! Everyone. Mostly the Researcher, but they’re they’re to help you to. And enforce the rules, if necessary.

The rules said something about death.
Oh, that’s just an emergency contingency! I’m sure nothing will come of it.
